- Girls Golf - Varsity Head Coach
Bio
For Jacqueline "Jackie" Elizabeth Trott Spires, coaching at Indian Hill represents a return home and an opportunity to give the next generation of Braves the same sense of belonging she experienced as a student-athlete.
An Indian Hill graduate and former varsity golf captain, Coach Trott Spires returned to her alma mater in 2024 to restart the Indian Hill Girls Golf program. What began with just four golfers quickly grew into a team of 16 student-athletes by 2025—a reflection of her commitment to creating a program where every player, regardless of experience or ability, feels valued and has an opportunity to contribute.
A Brave Comes Home
A Cincinnati native, Coach Trott Spires attended Indian Hill High School, where she competed on the varsity golf team and served as team captain during both her junior and senior years.
The golf program provided more than an athletic experience. It gave her a place to belong, develop relationships, and grow as a young person.
Years later, when the opportunity to rebuild the program presented itself, she saw the chance to create that same experience for another generation of Indian Hill students.
"The program was a home for me when I was in high school, and I wanted to create that environment for other high school girls."
Building the Program
Coach Trott Spires began her coaching career in 2024 with the significant task of restarting Indian Hill Girls Golf.
In the program's first season back, the team consisted of four golfers. Just one year later, participation had grown to 16 student-athletes.
That growth represents an important first chapter in the program's new era.
Coach Trott Spires has worked to create a culture that welcomes players at every stage of their golf journey—from experienced competitive golfers to students picking up a club for the first time.
"Our players are of all skill levels, and whether you're new to the sport or have been playing for years, it's important for everyone to contribute to the team's success."
Education and Leadership
After graduating from Indian Hill, Coach Trott Spires attended Miami University, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Arts and Sciences with a major in Strategic Communication and minors in Marketing, Digital Marketing, and Entrepreneurship.
Her passion for mentoring young people extends well beyond the golf course. For more than a decade, she volunteered with Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), helping high school students develop their leadership skills. She also served as the Southwest Ohio Director of Junior Facilitators.
That experience played an important role in shaping her approach to coaching.
"I've always loved mentorship opportunities. I volunteered with HOBY teaching high school students leadership skills for over a decade. When that came to an end, I didn't realize how much of a hole it would leave. This coaching opportunity came a little out of the blue, but it gave me another opportunity to invest in young people."
Why She Coaches
For Coach Trott Spires, coaching is ultimately about creating an experience that lasts beyond a student's time on the golf course.
Her own experience as an Indian Hill student-athlete showed her how meaningful a high school athletic program can be. Now, she wants her golfers to experience that same sense of connection while developing skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
She hopes every player leaves the program knowing that golf taught them something they can use just as much away from the course as they can while playing the game.
Coaching Philosophy
Coach Trott Spires believes strongly that education does not end when students leave the classroom.
"Students need to learn skills through team sports that translate into the real world. It's the mentality of giving someone a fish and feeding them for a day versus teaching them to fish and feeding them for a lifetime."
Her coaching philosophy is centered around three core values:
Respect – Treat yourself, your teammates, your opponents, and the game with respect.
Emotional Integrity – Understand your emotions, manage adversity, and respond to challenges in a way that reflects who you want to be.
Uncompromised Honesty – Do the right thing regardless of whether anyone is watching—a value especially important in a sport built upon personal integrity.
These principles extend well beyond golf and help prepare student-athletes for the challenges they will encounter throughout their lives.
Defining Success
Golf is unique because the greatest competition often takes place within the individual.
For Coach Trott Spires, success cannot be measured solely by wins, scores, or tournament finishes.
"It's about feeling proud of the way you played and the way you conducted yourself. Golf requires just as much mental strength as it does physical skill, and you have to develop both to be able to play your best."
That mindset allows every golfer to define progress individually while still understanding their responsibility to the team.
Why Indian Hill?
As an alumna who has returned to coach at her alma mater, Coach Trott Spires has a unique appreciation for what makes Indian Hill special.
"It's a community both on and off the course, inside and outside the classroom. It's an ecosystem of people who help you grow, support you through the hard times, and cheer you on for your successes—both professionally and personally."
Her journey from Indian Hill student-athlete to head coach is a reflection of that lifelong connection.
Today, she has the opportunity to give back to the community that helped shape her while creating a new chapter in the history of Indian Hill Girls Golf.
Beyond Golf
Away from the golf course, Coach Trott Spires enjoys reading, golfing, crafting, and learning Spanish.
