Bio

Since joining Indian Hill in the 2022–2023 school year, Will Thomure has brought a commitment to excellence, character development, and education-based athletics to the Braves. A longtime educator and coach with experience in both wrestling and golf, Coach Thomure believes athletics provide one of the most powerful environments for helping young people become better teammates, leaders, and members of their communities.

His philosophy is straightforward: competitive success matters, but the true impact of a program is measured by who student-athletes become because they were part of it.

From Springfield to Indian Hill

A native of Springfield, Ohio, Coach Thomure attended Springfield Shawnee High School, where he competed in football, wrestling, and baseball. He distinguished himself on the wrestling mat, earning recognition as an Ohio State Wrestling Tournament placer.

Thomure continued his education at Wright State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education and Health and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.

Today, he serves students as a middle school and high school Physical Education and Health teacher, bringing the same emphasis on growth, accountability, and personal development to the classroom that he brings to athletics.

A Career Dedicated to Coaching

Coach Thomure began his coaching career in 2010 and has accumulated extensive experience across multiple athletic programs.

Over the course of his career, he has spent approximately 16 years coaching wrestling at Miamisburg, Madeira, Oakwood, and Indian Hill, while also serving two years as the Head Boys Golf Coach at Oakwood before taking the leadership role at Indian Hill.

His diverse coaching background has helped shape an approach that focuses on individual development while creating a strong team culture.

Building a Championship Program

Under Coach Thomure's leadership, Indian Hill Boys Golf has reached significant milestones.

The 2025 season was a championship year for the Braves, highlighted by:

  • 2025 League Championship

  • 2025 Championship season

  • District Tournament appearances in 2024 and 2025

  • 2025 Coach of the Year honors

  • Three student-athletes coached who continued competing at the collegiate level

These accomplishments represent an important part of the program's success, but Coach Thomure believes the process behind those achievements is even more meaningful.

Why He Coaches

Coach Thomure became a coach with a clear purpose:

"To help student-athletes strive for excellence and become positive members of their communities."

For him, coaching creates an opportunity to influence young people during an important time in their lives. The lessons learned through preparation, competition, success, and adversity can help shape the type of people athletes become long after their playing careers are over.

Coaching Philosophy

Coach Thomure believes strongly in the mission of education-based athletics.

"Education-based athletics uses sports to teach life lessons, develop character, and prepare students for success beyond the game."

His coaching philosophy is built around three essential values:

Integrity – Doing what is right and representing yourself, your teammates, and your school with character.

Accountability – Taking responsibility for your choices, your preparation, and your role within the team.

Relentless Effort – Consistently giving your best and refusing to settle for less than your potential.

Together, these values create the foundation for how Coach Thomure wants his student-athletes to approach competition, academics, and life.

More Than Wins and Losses

When his athletes look back on their time in the program, Coach Thomure hopes their memories extend well beyond scores and championships.

"I hope every athlete remembers that they became a better person, teammate, and leader because they were part of our program."

That goal is reflected in a program culture that places equal importance on long-term character development, team relationships, continuous improvement, and competitive success.

Defining Success

For Coach Thomure, success is ultimately about fulfilling your potential while making the people around you better.

"Success is maximizing your potential while positively impacting your teammates, school, and community."

That definition challenges student-athletes to think beyond individual accomplishments. A successful athlete competes at a high level, but a successful teammate also contributes to something larger than themselves.

Why Indian Hill?

Coach Thomure believes Indian Hill offers a unique combination of high expectations and genuine community support.

"Indian Hill is special because it combines a tradition of excellence with a close-knit community that is deeply invested in the success of its students. Our athletes are challenged to pursue excellence in the classroom, in competition, and in the way they lead and serve others every day."

It is that commitment to developing the whole student that makes Indian Hill an ideal environment for his approach to education and coaching.

Beyond Coaching

Away from school and competition, Coach Thomure enjoys exercising, reading, and spending time with his family.
